GEO4901 – Atmosphere-Ocean Dynamics

Schedule, syllabus and examination date

Course content

In this course you learn about the dynamics of time-dependent motion in the atmosphere and ocean, including surface and internal gravity waves, planetary waves and low/high-pressure systems; storm development in a simplified model, with application to weather systems.

Learning outcome

After taking this course, you will be able to

  • understand the equations of motion governing the atmosphere and ocean
  • master basic dynamical balances applicable at weather scales
  • explain wave motion in the atmosphere and ocean
  • interpret a simplified model of instability
  • understand the life cycle of storms

Admission to the course
