1. Describe the factors that influence membrane fluidity? How is cholesterol oriented in the membrane and how does cholesterol regulate membrane fluidity?

2. How is asymmetry of membranes created and how is it maintained?

3. Explain how different proteins are oriented in the plasma membrane?

4. Give a description of the carbohydrate moiety of glycoproteins and explain how it is synthesized.

5. Protein sorting: Give a short description of signals that direct proteins to: endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, nucleus, peroxisomes, lysosomes

6. Explain how a heptahelical protein is synthesised (how is a protein with 7 transmembrane regions synthesised). Start with mRNA bound to ribosomes in the cytosol.

7. Describe how proteins are directed to the different parts of the mitochondria.
