Dear IN3050/IN4050 students

I just sent the following to you all on e-mail, but I post it here as well to make sure that everybody sees it

This is an update on the situation for our course

1. The impact of the corona situation on IN3050/IN4050
As you all know, the government has closed the university physically for the period 12-26 March. There will be no teaching in the IFI buildings during this period. The MN faculty had already decided to cancel all teaching for the period 13-20 March. It is working on digital solutions, and the plan is to resume teaching digitally from 23 March. In the mean time, we will actively use the digital solutions that are already in place. We will update the semester course page, including messages. You should check it regularly. We will also use Piazza, and try to answer your questions there. The University is also working on solutions for the exam, and we will keep you updated when we know more....

This Thursday, there will be no group session for Group 2 (12:15-14:00). We apologise for the late notice.

UiO's IT support is working on a solution for real-time remote group sessions. In the meantime, we will be providing additional support on Piazza, so feel free to ask any questions related to the exercises/assignments there.

With regards to the COVID-19 situation, we will be monitoring advice from the university administration, and making plans for next week's lecture and group sessions. Please keep an eye on the course page for further updates.

Mandatory assignment 2 is now out. Deadline 25 March. It has two parts. The first part sums up much of what we have been doing week05-week07 both at the lectures and in the weekly exercises. The second part is closely connected to yesterday's lecture (week08). I don't plan for additional weekly exercises these two weeks. Use the group sessions to work on the mandatory assignment, discuss with fellow students and get help from the group teacher on the parts of the weekly exercise set (week05-week07) which you will reuse in the assignment.

Enjoy!

If you have questions regarding delivery of mandatory assignment, postponement because of illness etc., send e-mail to your group teacher. If you don't know your group teacher, send to the e-mail list for teachers. By the way, here are regulations regarding postponement.

The week 3 exercise will be the topic for the group sessions until the next lecture. The group teachers will be focusing on crossover strategies, this will come in handy for the mandatory exercise coming out soon! So remember to attend the group sessions for a little extra help.

Hi everyone!

I got a question today about the deadlines for the mandatory exercises. The planned deadlines are:

February 21, March 20 and April 24.

The exercises will be posted online at least two weeks before the deadline.

There is an Anaconda installation on the IFI Linux-cluster and all the packages you need should be available there. The path is

/opt/ifi/anaconda3/bin/

If you put

export PATH=/opt/ifi/anaconda3/bin/:$PATH

into your .bashrc-file, next time you log in, commands like python, ipython, jupyter notebook, will give the right versions.

Hi everyone!

We are planning to use Piazza for class discussion. The system is highly catered to getting you help fast and efficiently from classmates, group teachers and lecturers. Rather than emailing questions to the teaching staff, we encourage you to post your questions on Piazza.

Find our class page at: https://piazza.com/uio.no/spring2020/in30504050/home

To register, use the registration code IN3050_4050_2020.

See you tomorrow for the first lecture!
