All the exercises in the book are useful (in the sense that none of the exercises are totally irrelevant with respect to the exam). But there is a lot of exercises, and each and one of you might have specific needs and interests. Below I recommend a few exercises from three different categories.

  • Category  I (recommended exercises of medium/high degree of difficulty). Section 7.3.1, page 212: ex 4; Section 7.4.1, page 223: ex 3, ex 6, ex 8; Section 7.5.1, page 234: ex 3 (a) and (b); ex 4; ex 5.
  • Category II (easy exercises which each and one of should convince yourself that you are able to solve). Section 7.3.1, page 212: ex 1, ex 2, ex 3 (a), ex 5 (a); Section 7.4.1 page 223: ex 1, ex 2.

The curriculum consists of two parts.

  • Part I, Computability theory: Chapter 7 of a "A friendly introduction to mathematical logic".
  • Part II, Computable analysis: Selected parts of Oliver Aberth's book "Computable analysis". You find the book here.

Our next meeting will take place

  • 4PM TUESDAY FEBRUARY 1.

I would like to emphasise that IN5580 (IN9580) is given as READING COURSE the spring 2022. There will be no lectures, but there will be some informal meetings. The time and the place of our meetings will be decided as we go along, but until early March all of our meetings will be Zoom meetings.

Below you find a link to the book "A friendly introduction to mathematical logic". You can download the pdf for free. You should read Section 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 before our next meeting.

Beware that a new version of the 2nd edition of the book was published in 2019: 2nd Edition. Second Printing. Whit corrections and renumbered exercises.

If you read the version published in 2015 you might encounter some misprints.

IN5580 (IN9580) wil be given as a reading course the spring 2022.

There will be some discussions groups (some of them Zoom meetings) and some classes, but there will be no regular lectures.

There will be an oral exam in late May (early June).
