Course content

"Semantic web" (SW) is a new and exciting development for the future WWW. At the same time, the methods and standards developed for SW are used to exchange and integrate data in industry and the public sector. Semantic technologies give a fascinating combination of web-technology, database technology, modeling, formal logic and artificial intelligence.

Learning outcome

  • Basic standards in semantic technologies (RDF, RDFS, OWL, SPARQL...)
  • Theoretical foundations: semantics in semantic technologies, basic about reasoning
  • Use of libraries for applying technologies in your own programs
  • Ontologies: what they are, how to make them and their uses
  • Survey of existing applications
  • Use of semantic technology for problems in web-development, data integration and data exchange
