INF5063 - Dolphin PCI Express Resources & FAQ
Page for resources and frequently asked questions for the GPU machines. If you have any other questions, please send an email to inf5063@ifi.uio.no
The following table gives an overview of the status of the lab machines in the lab at Simula. The lab machines are connected in two-node configs, and the setup is the hardware is the same as on previous home exams.
Remember that you have to SSH into oslo.simula.no to access the lab-net here at Simula. Username and password has been provided to all groups:
Computer | Node ID | CPU | GPU | Compute Capability | SIMD Capability | Status |
mpg-2014-13.ndlab.net | 4 | Intel Core i5-4590 | GeForce GTX 750 (GM107) | 5.0 | SSE 4.2 / AVX2 | Operational |

Please note that only one person in a group may reserve a timeslot (max 4 hours) at a time! The reason for this is to allow other user access to the GPU machines as well. Groups can share machines for this assignment, however, not more than two groups per machine. We have a reservation system in place for the GPU machines here at Simula:
The login to open the page is the same you use to access the Home Exams. Remember to log into the calendar with the username and password provided to your group.
There is a setup script in "/opt/DIS" which automatically creates two shell variables, $LOC_DHOST (local dolphin host) and $REM_DHOST (remote dolphin host), that you can utilize for uniform access to local and remote machine over PCI express.
Usage: "$ source /opt/DIS/setup.sh".
Then, on mpg-2014-13.ndlab.net, "echo $REM_DHOST" outputs "mpg-2014-14". The same command outputs "mpg-2014-13" on mpg-2014-14.ndlab.net.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can groups share machines?
A: Yes, you can! However we do not recommend to many groups sharing one pair of machines.
Q: Can all machines talk to each other over PCI Express?
A: Unfortunately no. In the current setup, two and two nodes are connected. mpg-2014-13 can talk to mpg-2014-14 and mpg-2014-15 can talk to mpg-2014-16.
