Essay assignment

• 5000 words essay on some of the theories that have been presented which are relevant for your research (i.e. resembling a “theory chapter” in your thesis or research proposal)
• Draft deadline: March 26, 2010
• Final deadline: May 28, 2010

Sundeep will take drafts for review/discussion at any time. If anyone has more design oriented theory, Tone can also supervise on the essay. It would also be interesting if anyone would like to discuss their essay in a student group session.

Introduction

• Start with your empirical case/context, and research problem (what you are working on)
• Give a small description of the empirical setting
• Theoretical domain you want to use in this empirical context
• Why is the theory relevant (how does the theory help explain how to approach the empirical context)?

Critical litterature review

• The state of art of the theory, a litttle theory review
• Focus on/identify the debates
• Position yourself in the debate (what is your take on the debate)
• Can take concepts from different theories: structures from structuration, translation from ANT

How do you plan to use the literature?

• Linking Theory ("toolkit of concepts")
• If you have empirical findings, explaining using the toolkit of concepts that you have taken
• Make a link between theory and empirical analysis
