Course content
The seminar deals with current topics in language technology, often linked to ongoing research activities at the LNS group. The content is based on presentations from the participants and invited guests, and will vary depending on who is included.

Admission
PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.
If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.
PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.

INF1820 – Introduksjon til spr?k- og kommunikasjonsteknologi (continued), INF2820 – Computational linguistics (continued) and INF4820 – Algorithms for artificial intelligence and natural language processing (discontinued)

Teaching
Presentation of results from their own or others' research. Every participant contributes with lectures.
2 hours every other week.
Examination
80% attendance. Students must give at least one lecture. In addition the candidates must submit a short essay (min. 10 pages) supplementing the content of the oral presentation. Also the following requirements need to be fulfilled throughout the semester: Students must give at least one presentation and attend at least 80% of all seminar sessions. Furthermore, students and their supervisor(s) select two of the seminar presentations by others for more in-depth study; students must prepare a scholarly summary of the research presented and relevant background materials for these presentations, as selected by the supervisor(s). These summaries must be submitted no later than two weeks after the seminar presentation and are approved jointly by the supervisor(s) and seminar leader(s).

Explanations and appeals
Resit an examination
Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.
Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
