INF4320 – Computer graphics and geometric modelling

Course content

Graphics programming based on OpenGL and C/C++, coordinate systems and transformations, viewing, shading, the frame buffer and discrete techniques, rendering and hidden-surface removal, Bezier curves and surfaces, triangular and polygonal meshes, triangulation algorithms, subdivision curves and surfaces.

Learning outcome

The course gives an introduction to computer graphics and basic theory of modelling curves and surfaces. Graphics programming is an essential part of the course.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:

  • Mathematics R1 or Mathematics (S1+S2)

The special admission requirements may also be covered by equivalent studies from Norwegian upper secondary school or by other equivalent studies. Read more about special admission requirements (in Norwegian).

Recommended previous knowledge

It is recommended, though not compulsory, that you have taken the following courses (or their equivalent): INF1020 – Algorithms and data structures (discontinued) /INF110, MAT1100 – Calculus /MAT 100, MAT1110 – Calculus and Linear Algebra /MAT 110 og MAT-INF1100 – Modelling and Computations (discontinued) /MAT 100. It is recommended that you have some experience of programming in C or C++.

Overlapping courses

10 credits INF3320 – Computer graphics and geometric modelling (discontinued), 9 credits MoD 219.

Teaching

One two-hour lectures and one two-hour tutorial per week. There will be both programming and theoretical exercises.

Examination

Three-hour written exam at the end of the course. The obligatory exercises can be used to decide the final mark.

Resit an examination

This subject does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. For general information about new examination, see /studier/admin/eksamen/sykdom-utsatt/mn/index.html and http://www.matnat.uio.no/english/studies/examination/repeat.html

Other

Note that the first lecture is compulsory. The subject is regarded equal to INF3320 – Computer graphics and geometric modelling (discontinued) and MoD219 when practicing exam regulations.
