Self-Help Group
To encourage informal discussion among students, or possibly involving students as well as lecturers, we have created a facebook group for the class. The group is publicly readable, but only members can post. We invite everyone to register as a group member for INF4820 on facebook.
Also, we have further populated the course pages with schedule updates, additional background materials, and a sample exam (go search among the top-level links).
In the lecture tomorrow (Wednesday, September 3), we will introduce higher-order functions in Common Lisp and a wealth of data structures; on Thursday, we will round up our introduction as Common Lisp as a general-purpose programming language, including an introduction to the mighty loop (iteration construct). There will be interactive programming and an exam-related ‘quiz’ (to score bonus points against obligatory assignments).
Last but not least, the student association in informatics offers an introduction to emacs (and pizza), right after our lecture tomorrow; and Forbes magazine publishes a (relatively) in-depth interview about artificial intelligence and machine learning.
