INF5230 – Geographical Information systems: Analysis, modelling and applications
Course description
Course content
Development and implementation issues related to the role of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in various settings, both in developing and industrialized countries. Collection of spatial data and preparation of base maps. Theoretical and practical aspects of geographical information representation, analysis and modeling. Web interfaces design and usability.
Learning outcome
Students will be able to analyze spatial aspects of information, and understand theories behind common methods related to GIS. They should be familiar with tools for spatial analysis, and be able to design and implement interactive map based web applications.

Formal prerequisite knowledge

3 credits against IN-DIW/ INF5270 – Design av interaktive nettsteder (discontinued)
Teaching
50 hours teaching. Lectures, case studies and student presentations. Student projects with applications of GIS tools.
Examination
Assessment will be made based on a team project report, as well as an individual essay. Graded marks.
Resit an examination
This subject does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination.
