ITSLP5000 – Introduction to masters studies in IT – language, logic, psychology

Course content

A theoretical and practical introduction to scientific method and authorship with respect to the involved fields of study. The practical part will include

  • advanced text processing and authoring tools
  • library and information search
  • scientific authorship and style

The theoretical part will cover theory of science, research ethics, together with theory and method in the cognitive sciences, in general, and within the students chosen field of specialization, in particular, and broaden the knowledge from ITSLP1100.

Learning outcome

The student should be able to complete the masters program within the scheduled time.

Admission

Admission to this subject requires that you have been accepted to the masters programme in IT - language, logic, psychology.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway.

Teaching

Two weekly 2-hour lectures in the first half of the semester.
One weekly 2-hour lecture in the last half of the semester.

The lectures will require active students.

Mandatory assignments must be solved during the course; if these are not accepted, the student may not take the final exam.

Examination

One semester assignment (6-10 pages).

Grades are awarded on a pass/fail scale. Read more about the grading system.

Resit an examination

This subject does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. Note that the first lecture is mandatory.

The subject is regarded equal to HUMIT4700/HUMIT4700MN when practicing exam regulations.
