UNIK4110 – Fixed broadband wireless access

Course content
The course will give an introduction to and overview of the developing area of Fixed Broadband Wireless Access which in broad includes systems operated from the upper MHz range to 40 GHz. The main emphasis will be on systems design and operation, covering operational principles and architectures for fixed and nomadic usage as well as users and service scenarios. Interoperability of different access networks and development trends in technology and standardisation is covered.
Learning outcome
The students will acquire an insight into the field of Fixed Broadband Wireless Access, its potential in the total broadband access scenario and an understanding of operational principles, technology used and development trends. The topic is well suited as part of a master/PhD study in combination with courses on radio and broadcast technology.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
None.
Recommended previous knowledge
A fundamental knowledge of the principles of radio communication or broadcast is recommended.
Teaching
Three hours of lectures per week. Some exercises involving design and computation.
Examination
An oral exam with graded marks (A-F) will be held at the end of the semester.
