UNIK4200 – Multicasting, routing and service quality

Course content
The course will be based on actual problems in the architecture of various digital overlay network and Internet infrastructures. The starting point will be articles in learned journals. The students will develop and present solutions. The most important themes are: multicast routeing and signalling, routeing, service quality and traffic engineering.
Learning outcome
Give students in-depth knowledge of protocols and architectures for multicasting, routeing, service quality and traffic engineering.

Recommended previous knowledge
Knowledge on Internet protocols and architectures.
Overlapping courses
10 credits overlap with UNIK9200 – Multicasting, ruting og tjenestekvalitet (discontinued)
Teaching
3 hours lectures, 1 hour practice. Student presentations.
The course can be followed as remote education, by agreement with lecturer only.
Examination
Oral exam at the end of the semester. If there are many students, there may be given a written exam instead.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
Explanations and appeals
Resit an examination
Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.
Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
