Course content
Ionicity and crystal properties. Symmetry and classification of states. The envelope method. Mathematical representation of technologically important band extrema. Donor, acceptor and exciton states. Quantum structures. Optical transitions. The dielectric function and screening.
Learning outcome
Provide training in the use of physical concepts and models exploited in the production and characterization of new semiconductors components.
