KJM1002 – Introduction to Chemistry

Course content
The course provides an introduction to key topics in chemistry and includes an introduction to organic chemistry suitable for further studies, as well as practical laboratory training. The course is a part of the programme Biovitenskap (bachelor). Students who already have ‘Chemistry 2’ (Kjemi 2) from Upper Secondary School should consider taking KJM1101 General Chemistry.

Special admission requirements
In addition to fulfilling the?Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:
- Mathematics R1 (or Mathematics S1 and S2) + R2
And in addition one of these:
- Physics (1+2)
- Chemistry (1+2)
- Biology (1+2)
- Information technology (1+2)
- Geosciences (1+2)
- Technology and theories of research (1+2)
The special admission requirements may also be covered by?equivalent studies from Norwegian upper secondary school or by other equivalent studies?(in Norwegian).
Formal prerequisite knowledge
The following courses must be passed before you can attend the first mandatory laboratory teaching in KJM1002:

Minimum basic chemistry (e.g. Kjemi 1) from Upper Secondary School.
Overlapping courses
- 10 credits overlap with KONS1002.
- 7 credits overlap with KJM1001 – Introduction to chemistry (continued).
- 7 credits overlap with FARM1100 – Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
- 4 credits overlap with KJM1101 – Generell kjemi.
Examination
- Final written exam?(4 hours), which?counts 100 % towrads?the final grade.
This course has mandatory exercises that must be approved before you can take the final exam.
It will also be counted as one of the three attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses: KJM1001 – Introduction to chemistry (continued)

Language of examination
The examination text is given in Norwegian. You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
