Content and Purpose
You will learn how to work safely with open radioactive sources in this course. The course, together with work-place specific training, is required before you are allowed to work with radioactive sources. The course consist of two parts. Part one is the general UiO rad. protection course and part two is specific rules and procedures at the Department of Chemistry and SAFE.
The course is required for chemistry MSc students at SAFE. Provided there is enough free places (there usually is), other students interested in rad. protection training are welcome also.

Requirements
There is no specific requirements.
If you have followed KJM 3900 you can skip the first part of the UiO general rad. protection course. Discuss this with your teacher.
Schedule
It is obligatory to follow the UiO course in "General radiation protection", see details here . This course is offered in August/September each autumn (Tuesday 4th to Thursday 6th in 2012) and the schedule is fixed.
The practical parts (lab) will be arranged on a later day, most likely 26th and/or 27th September:

- 0915-10:00 Quick review of the radiation protection procedures.
- 10:15-11:00 Lecture about practical and administrative radiation protection procedures in our rad. labs and the cyclotron laboratory.
- 11:00-12:00 Tour of the labs and exercises
- 13:15-14:00 Handling of radioactive waste at SAFE.
- 14:15-15:00 Acquiring radioactive material and book-keeping.
- 15:15-16:00 Exam.
Evaluation
Each student is requried to write a log during the course. Your skills at handling radiation protection equipment will be tested during the course. At the end of the course your log will be evaluated and you have to pas a multiple-choice test.
Litterature and Course Material
The compendium used for the general radiation protection course, contains the basic radiation protection procedures. You will get this on the first course day.
