Course content

The course treats the chemistry of all types of materials, in particular materials associated with use in advanced technology. Ceramic materials, zeolites and porous materials, minerals, nano-materials, thin films, molecular materials, polymeric materials, hybrid materials and liquid crystals.

Learning outcome

The student should know the main chemical aspects of organic and inorganic materials with emphasis on structure, synthesis and reactivity.

KJM4100 – Chemistry of Materials (discontinued) 10 credits

Teaching

3 hours of lectures per week, 1 hour of assisted group work and a project. A passed project report is a prerequisite for taking the exam.

The first lecture is mandatory. If you are unable to join, the Expedition Office has to be informed in advance (phone 22 85 54 46, or e-mail ekspedisjonen@kjemi.uio.no). If you fail to register as an active student for the course in either of these ways, you will loose the access to the course for the given semester.

Examination

Written exam (3 hours). Letter grades (A-F). Students may bring a calculator.

Language of examination

You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.

Other

The teaching will be cancelled if less than 3 students are registered for the course by the closing date for course registration in January.

A passed project report is only valid the semester it was approved.
