Course content

The course is focused on the properties of materials used in modern technology. The topics treated include crystal structures, bonding, and physical properties (electrical, magnetic, optic etc) of materials. Focus is given to the relationship between properties and crystal structure.

Learning outcome

The student should gain insight into the structure and properties of a broad spectrum of functional materials.

Admission

Overlapping courses

4 credit points with KJ-MV210, 6 credit points with KJ-MV311 and 10 credit points with MEF3000 – Functional materials (discontinued).

Teaching

The course is tought every autumn semester and comprises 2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of exercises per week.

Examination

One written midterm exam (1 hour, counting 20 % of final result) in October. Final written exam (3 hours, counting 80 % of final result) in December. Final grade is given as letter marks (A-F).

For Ph.D. students, there can be arranged a new examination each semester (only for those who have failed in the ordinary examination).

This subject offers new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. Other

The teaching in this course will be cancelled if less than 3 students register within the deadline for the course registration.
