I hope everything went well with today's exam. You can find the solution here.

Ragnar Winther will take the last part of the lectures in the course. He will delay the exercises from chapter 11 to next week, and instead go through chapter 12 on Thursday. Next week he will do the exercises from chapter 11 and 12 together. Three exam questions from chapter 11 will also be addressed, as posted in the lecture plan.

I have already corrected the third compulsory exercise for all of you. Most deliveries were OK, and I had few comments. I have also put a solution to it on the course's webpage.

Tomorrow I plan to use 5-10 minutes of the lecture on a quick evaluation of the course. Let use then together think through questions such as:
1) Have the lectures been working well?
2) Are the exercise sessions integrated well into the lectures?
3) Have the compulsory exercises filled their purpose?
4) Is the book curriculum appropriate?

I have put out the fourth and last compulsory exercise. This is smaller than the previous ones, and consists of just one exercise from the book. The theory you need for it will be gone through in tomorrow's lecture.

I have corrected the first compulsory exercise. Since all of you passed, I have also put out a solution on the course's webpage. Some of you got some comments that some parts were badly explained. If so, please compare with the solution.

The solutions to the exercises in the book have been updated on the course's webpage, so that you can find solutions to most of he exercises throughput the book. Note that some of the exercises numbers are not in sync with those of the book. This should cause no problem, as alle exercises include a title as in the book.

I have published the second compulsory exercise, see under compulsory exercises on the course's webpage. You need to go through chapter 6 in the book for this exercise, which I also will go through in the lecture on Thursday. The deadline is 11/10, two weeks after that lecture.

I will correct and give you feedback on the first compulsory exercise before Thursday.

Remember that the deadline for the first compulsory exercise is absolute - the system will not accept deliveries even one minute after the deadline. So prepare your submission in good time, in particular find out in good time how you can scan your hand-written notes, if you don't use latex. See here for more information about compulsory exercises.

There was a minor error in the python code for oblig 1. The fixed python code can be found here.

You can choose if you want to use MATLAB or Python in the first compulsory exercises, but note the the code segment in the text is only given in MATLAB. I have translated that text to Python here. As you see there are some difference between simps and numpy, in particular when it comes to solving linear systems, and also the Hilbert matrix.

Welcome to MAT-INF4130! The first lecture will be at the 20th of August, and the lecture notes can be found under pensum/l?ringskrav (these were also used last year). We will attempt to cover one chapter every week (and in the same order as in the notes). Most of the Monday sessions will be dedicated to exercises, but we will probably mix exercises and lectures on Thursdays as well (the first Monday session will be a lecture). We may also use the Monday sessions partially for lectures some weeks, depending on the amounts of content in each chapter.

There will be four compulsory exercises, and the first one will be published just before the first lecture.
