As the submission deadline is approaching, we expect you to have questions about writing mathematics, bibliographies and LaTeX. On May 7th and May 14th from 10:15-12:00, you can come to Auditorium 2 in Vilhelm Bjerknes' hus to get help with these issues. Please bring your laptop or a printed version of your current draft.
Submission of projects
Submit the project as a PDF to Paul Arne (paularne@math.uio.no). Write your name on the front page and in the filename. The deadline for submitting is May 21st.
Exams (Updated)
The final exam consists of a 20 minutes long oral presentation, using either Beamer or blackboard. The exams are held on May 31st and June 4th. A schedule for the presentations will be posted later.
The schedule can be found under Projects and Mandatory Assignment.
The feedback on the mandatory assignments is given as annotations in the PDF. Not all PDF readers are capable of displaying the annotations. If you cannot read them, try opening the file in another program. Both Evince and Adobe Reader correctly display the comments.
Students who did not get their assignment approved are asked to resubmit by 14:30 Thursday March 1st.
A few LaTeX issues were common to several of the assignments. The issues are dealt with in this document.
By February 15th you have to...
- choose your supervisor and project
- send an e-mail to Paul Arne ?stv?r about your decision
- submit your mandatory assignment in Devilry
- e-mail your mandatory assignment to Karoline Moe
TikZ is a package for drawing directly in LaTeX. Veronika Heimsbakk will give an introduction to TikZ at ?pen sone for eksperimentell informatikk, Ole-Johan Dahls hus on Tuesday February 13that 16:15.
The course notes (in Norwegian) can be found here.
Devilry is now open, and you may submit your mandatory assignment.
Deadline: February 15th at 15:00.
Devilry is not open for submissions yet, but we hope that it will be by the end of this week.
There will be no exercise sessions on Fridays before the oral presentations of the mandatory assignments in March. A schedule will be set up by the end of February.
The file used in today's lecture is posted on the web page with comments. Your first task is to compile the source code yourself. The document is structured in such a way that you should switch between reading the source code and the compiled PDF.
At the end of the file is a list of useful packages and links to further LaTeX resources.
The first project topics are posted here. The list will expand during next week. Find a project and confirm with the supervisor that the project is still available. You can suggest topics that are not listed as well.
Once you have a project, send an e-mail with the topic and the name of your supervisor to Paul Arne (paularne@math.uio.no).
The deadline for finding a project is February 15th.
In this course, you are required to write the mandatory assignment and the final project using TeX and friends. For that you need a TeX distribution. We recommend TeX Live, which is suitable for Mac, Windows and Linux. You also need an editor.
You can avoid the installation by using an online editor, such as ShareLaTeX or Overleaf.
LaTeX is available on the computers belonging to the Department of Mathematics.
