The "a mini-introduction to convexity" can now be found under resources on the course webpage. I start on this in today's lecture. The second compulsory exercise, which I will publish early next week, will contain some questions from this part.

I have added an "englesk norsk ordliste" for the course under resources. Under today's lecture in the schedule I have also added some foils for today's lecture. This is new material which is not in th book, but still in the curriculum.

In today's lecture I will solve exercises from chapter 17. In tomorrow's lecture I will go through some game theory which can not be found directly in the book. This is still very relevant for the exam.

I have posted a solution to the first compulsory exercise under resources on the course webpage.

I commented on many of you that the order of the variables or the constraints swapped unnaturally during pivoting, or that matching variables were not listed above one-another. These are not errors, and would usually not lead to less points in a an exam, but it makes the simplex method less systematic and more prone to errors.

This is just a reminder to hand in the first compulsory exercise today, which has deadline today 1430. I will correct what you hand in - it is only required to hand in in order to pass.

In today's lecture we will solve exercise from chapter 5. I guess one hour will be enough, so we quit early today. Tomorrow we will go through chapter 17 in the book.

I also remind you about the first compulsory exercise which is due Thursday 1430. The requirement is that you hand this in - I will give feedback on what you hand in, but as long as you hand in you will pass.

Since last Tuesday's lecture was canceled, I will instead start on chapter 3 on Monday, and continue on chapter 4 on Tuesday. The schedule of the course has been changed to reflect this.

Michael Floater will be stand-in lecturer today, since I got the flue. Michael will also be stand-in for the lecture tomorrow. (I first wrote a message that we cancel tomorrow. Disregard that, since Michael had time for the Tuesday lecture after all).

Next week both lectures will be used for solving the exercises listed in the time schedule for the course (timeplan). You will find the lectures much more useful if you attempt to solve these exercises in advance.

Welcome to MAT3100! The first lecture will be on 20th of January, and we will be in aud. 4 VB (see the calendar). The lectures (four hours per week) will be used for both exercises and going through the syllabus.

The syllabus has been updated (we use leganto). In addition, the lecture notes are also part of the syllabus, and will be made available continuously.

We will use the fifth edition of Vanderbei's book.
