Hello, and welcome to MAT4200 – Commutative Algebra!
The course will mainly follow lecture notes available here. These are based on last year's teaching and somewhat rough, so comments and corrections are very welcome. The notes will be updated as the course proceeds. As a secondary source, you may find Geir Ellingsrud's commutative algebra book (available here) useful.
There will be one mandatory written assignment, graded pass/fail. The plan is to post this before 2 October, with a submission deadline of Thursday 16 October. If there are good reasons for moving that date (e.g. overlapping deadlines in other courses), please let me know.
The letter grade in the course is based on a final written exam which will take place 11 Dec. Exams from previous years, some with solutions, can be found here.
