Hi,
The message sent out this morning was wrong. We will have the discussion on Wedge flow this Tuesday and lecture on instability this Thursday.
Bests,
Andreas & Jingbang
As we announced in the class, the "homework" for next week will be reading two articles on history of computations of turbulence and turbulence modelling.
We will discuss the details of the Schmitt articles, so please go through the details and be ready to discuss this in class.
The date will be determined next week, tentatively tuesday 19th November.
Tarjei will present the following on Nov. 12, but I would encourage everyone to also follow the same derivation :)
Everyone should have read the article that will be part of the discussion, with particular emphasis of the physical consequences.
----------------------------
Consider some very viscous liquid placed on a solid substrate being scrapped by another solid plate very slowly at a given angle. This will create a flow in the viscous fluid around the corner, and one can solve for the velocity field, the normal and the tangential stresses on the scrapper by treating it as a Stokes flow. More interestingly, if the angle between the solid substrate and the scrapper is small, one can obtain the same normal and tangential stress by considering the thin film flow instead of the Stokes flow:...
There will be no lecture next week (starting nov. 4)
Read the chapters 6.1-6.7 (White 3rd edition, including also turbulence modelling in 6.7)
We will continue this week on the stability of flows and their criteria. Follow Chap. 5.1-5.3.5 and 5.4 in White (3rd edition)
Tuesday will be about stability of parallel flows and first sign of turbulence
Hi all,
Mandatory assignment 2 is online now and due in 2 weeks. Good luck!
There will be no example class next week, so you can spend more time on the mandatory assignment.
Bests,
Jingbang
We have arranged the oral exam Tuesday December 3 in the following way. Location is in NHA1119;
09:15: Iver
10:00: Mustapha
10:45: Tarjei
Bring your knowledge and a good mood!
Here are the exercises for the exercise session next tuesday.
Here is the problem we will work on next tuesday.
Hopefully you will take a look before class.
Here is the problem we will work on next tuesday.
Hopefully you will have time to take a look at it despite being busy with the Oblig.
On tuesday we will do the free-interface version of the flow past a sphere from today.
Enjoy doing the details yourselves!
The problem is number 3-35 in the book and can also be found Here
Hi all,
Mandatory assignment 1 is online, you can find it under "assignments" on canvas. The deadline is in 2 weeks, that is, October 3rd, 14:30. Best of luck!
Jingbang
Hi all,
Here are the notes for stagnation flow (viscous), Ekman flow, Stokes flow 1 and Stokes flow 2.
Bests,
Jingbang
The problem for the next exercise session is here. Sorry for the delay in posting.
We will go through together on Tuesday.
Have a nice weekend!
Next week we will have lecture on Tuesday and nothing on Thursday (as mentioned previously). On Tuesday we will start looking at unsteady flows.
The exercises for the next exercise session (10.9.) will be posted soon.
Have a nice sunny weekend :)
Hi all,
Here is the example sheet 1. It is mainly on Couette flow and Poiseuille flow, which Vira will cover Tuesday next week. But I'm uploading it now just in case some of you want to have a look early.
Bests,
Jingbang
Hi everyone,
There were some requests yesterday for course information that we went through in the slides on Tuesday. Here is a link to the slides.
The textbook we are following is "Viscous Fluid Flow" by Frank White. There are a number of editions, but all are essentially the same.
We will be going through topics in chapters 1-6. There is a preliminary list of specific sections we will cover on slide 4, but this may be adapted as we go. The most important for you is to cover the topics that we discuss in class. Our lectures follow the book quite closely, so we recommend that you read at least the sections that are covered in lectures (our lecture notes will be posted here on the course page).
For next week, we will be switching the exercise session and the lecture. So on Tuesday we will begin lectures on Chapter 3,...
Hi everyone,
Welcome to the MEK4300 Viscous Flow and Turbulence. We will be posting lecture notes and example sheet here. Stay tuned :)
Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday (20th Aug)!
Bests,
Vira, Jingbang and Andreas
