A long master thesis corresponds to one year of full time study and constitutes half of the master study.

Learning outcome

After completing the master thesis you will:

  • have specialized and updated knowledge within at least one of the fields of insurance, finance, risk analysis and statistics
  • have solid knowledge in a wide range of methods and techniques based on mathematics, probability, statistics and computer science, and be able to use them for analysis and problem solving
  • be able to carry out a research or development project under supervision according to current research ethical norms
  • master written and oral communication of comprehensive professional work to specialists
  • be able to apply your knowledge and skills within new fields in order to carry out assignments and projects

Admission

The master thesis is a compulsory part of the master program Stochastic Modelling, Statistics and Risk Analysis and requires admission into this study program.

Teaching

Working with the master thesis you will carry out an independent, time limited research and development project under supervision.

Examination

A master thesis of 60 credits shall be submitted within a deadline. Then there is an oral presentation of the master thesis and an examination.

Language of examination

You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
