Exercises for Thursday March 5
1. On Thu Feb 26 we discussed crossed validation and its relation to the model robust AIC score (the AIC^*), aspects of the BIC, and went through exercises.
2. The exam for this course will consist of two parts. Part A is a project, with the set of exercises being made available on date 1 and the reports are to be handed in at date 2, where we tentatively go for date 1 = Wed June 3 and date 2 = Mon June 15. Part B is a four-hour written exam, to be held Thu June 11. Please notify N.L.H. immediately if you have serious practical concerns regarding these dates.
3. Exercises for Thu Mar 5: First, we finish the "birds" analysis with the eight candidate models, also carrying out two cross validation tasks, with respect to log-density and with quality = E | y_new - \hat y_new |. Then, find the Exam set for this course for 2009, and do Exercise 3, points a, b, f, g.
4. I am placing a couple of R scripts on the website, within a day or two, one of which pertains to the birds data set, with Poisson regression, cross validation, etc.
