Course content
The objective of this course is to make students adept in the process of testing and validating new business ideas in the market place.
Learning outcome
During the course, students will develop a working knowledge of what it takes to assess the market viability of new business ideas.
After completion of the course the student should:
? Have acquired knowledge and terminology about customer development, lean startup processes and value proposition design.
? Be able to identify, test and validate customer problems, and test new solutions for solving those problems.
? Be able to formulate problem and solution hypotheses, design and implement market experiments, and evaluate market data.
? Have developed increased knowledge and awareness about data driven startup processes, and improved ability to assess the realistic market viability of new business ideas.
Admission
The course is targeted at students in the 2-year Master`s program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Center for Entrepreneurship, University of Oslo.
To attend this course you need to hold a Bachelor’s degree. A limited number of students that are not participating in the MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship program will be enrolled. It is considered particularly relevant for PhD-students. In cases where student applicants are higher than the course’s capacity, priority will be given to students in the Master?s program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification within natural sciences or medicine is required.
Teaching
The teaching consists of weekly teaching sessions where main theoretical concepts are summarized and students receive tutoring towards their assignments. Students are expected to study the curriculum themselves, so that most of the teaching sessions can be used for discussion and tutoring.
Throughout the course, students work in groups to test the market viability of a business idea. This group work forms the foundation for writing the group reports used in assessment.
Teaching takes place from January - March.
Examination
The course will be evaluated through portfolio assessment based on two group assignments and one individual assignment. The two group assignments count 30% each and the indivdual assignment counts 40% towards the overall grade. The overall grade will be based on a summative evaluation after all three assignments have been delivered.

Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Explanations and appeals
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
