Course content
The course gives an introduction to personal leadership and development as a leader with emphasis on psychological and organizational perspectives on the interaction between managers and subordinates.
The following topics will be addressed:
? Theories on Leadership and leadership development
? Conflict management
? Strategies in communication
? The processes of cooperation
? Team management
? Change management
? Clinical governance
Learning outcome
The course will show you the challenges of teamwork and leadership and it will broaden you understanding of central theories of leadership. The course will demonstrate the dynamics and challenges in teams and work cooperation in general. The course will provide personal leadership challenges.
You should adapt methods for development of personal leadership skills. You will gain personal experience of leadership challenges and get feedback on your own leadership and team member performance.
Admission
Restricted admission.
The course is elective and primarily designed for bachelorstudents in their fifth semester. The student must apply personally before the end of November. The course is also offered as an elective master course when capacity allows it. The course is thought in Norwegian and the participant must speak Norwegian fluently.

Formal prerequisite knowledge
No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway.Overlapping courses

Teaching
The course lecture and seminars are organized in two intensive weeks. The lectures and seminars are mandatory (90%) together with two mandatory home assignments and one written exam.
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
Portfolio assessment. The assessment involves valid participation, passing of exercises and interaction, passing of a home assignment and a final written exam. Students must pass participation, exercises, interaction and home assignment in order to sit for the final exam.
Language of examination
You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation
The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
