INTHE4001 – Theoretical Foundations, part 1
Course content
This course focuses on biology knowledge is very important INTERACTIONS WITH THE COMMUNITY. This includes three sentral areas in community health:
- Human and Microbial Ecology
- Water and Health
- Community Nutrition
Learning outcome
This course takes aim to give the student information in three issues related to international health. In Human/Microbial Ecology the aim is to try to create an understanding of pathogenicity and virulence, and the impact of interacting microbes in ecological niches. Further topics include causes of changes in host immune resistance, microbial evolution and the effects of migration, attitudes and drugs on transmission and course of infections. In Water & Health the aim is to give an introduction to water as a natural resource, and the biological mechanisms behind the multiple interrelations between water and health. Moreover, the course covers applicable technology for clean water and sanitation, and the planning and assessment of hygienic water-management. In Community Nutrition the aim is to provide an understanding of the biological, social and other (socio-economic, environmental) determinants of nutritional ailment of public health importance in developing and developed countries. Further, the course will focus on the intervention methods and current assessment procedures including nutrition surveillance.

Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.

You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.
