INTHE4116 – Evaluation: Quality and Knowledge in Health Interventions

Course content
This interdisciplinary course aims to provide the participants with practical skills to plan, design and perform systematic monitoring and research-based evaluations of health interventions.
The course addresses specific techniques for applying research methods in the evaluation process. It seeks to convey the practical aspects of performing an evaluation (time- and budget constraints) and delineates strategies for the application of evaluation results. The course emphasizes the quality of information in the evaluation process, and evaluation as a mechanism for organizational learning.
The topic of case studies and examples throughout the course are from the following two areas: Mental health interventions in multicultural populations and responses to trauma; and national child immunization programmes.

- The methodological toolkit: The OECD evaluation models: The Logical Framework Approach and Results-Based Management; Participatory Evaluations
- How to apply the above generic tools in the evaluation of health care
- Specific Indicators and methodologies in evaluations of mental health interventions and immunization programmes
- Group-work on case studies
- Practical skills and organization of evaluations
- Strategies for communicating and reporting
