The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo comprises several teaching hospitals. The five major ones (called University Hospitals, universitetssykehus) are Aker universitetssykehus, Det norske radiumhospital (DNR), Rikshospitalet, Ullev?l universitetssykehus and Akershus universitetssykehus (AHus). In addition there are a large number of other teaching hospitals and clinics in Oslo and its surrounding areas.
Rikshospitalet
Rikshospitalet is the oldest university hospital in Norway. In 2000 Rikshospitalet moved into new buildings.
The University administration (Secretariat) at Rikshospitalet has administrative responsibility for the 3rd, 7th, 9th and 11th/12th semesters of the Oslo Medical Curriculum. Semester coordinator is Eva Gretland (see below). The Faculty of Medicine is divided into ten institutes. One of these is The Faculty Division Rikshospitalet. It comprises research units concentrating on laboratory research and clinical research and organizes. 300-500 researchers.
Studentkontoret is on the 3rd floor in section B1 (see map of Rikshospitalet). Her you will find the semester coordinator Eva Gretland. The purpose of the office is to take care of the student’s immediate needs in matters that concern teaching and facilities at Rikshospitalet.
ID cards for Rikshospitalet will be issued to the medical students from the start of the 3rd semester. Students who do not have ID cards should contact Eva Gretland or Linda Tholfsen (3rd semester) The ID card expires at the calculated time of graduation. If you have taken a leave of absence, you must have the expiration date on your ID card changed. Auditoriums (lecture rooms) are in section B. In the main lecture hall (Store auditorium) there is room for 399 people. In the basement (underetasjen) there are three smaller auditoriums/lecture halls. The library (Bibliotek for medisin og helse) can help you search on the internet and find relevant articles and/or books. This is also where you can buy copying cards for UiOs photocopy machines. One part of this library is in the main lobby at Rikshospitalet, another part is in the nearby (basic science institutes) in Domus Medica. The library has a "drop in" course every day at 14:00.
Reading rooms (lesesaler) are located close to the Skills Centre and has a total of 150-160 seats. Only students in semester 12 are given permanent reading room seats.
Computer rooms are near the reading rooms in section B.
Student changing rooms, locker rooms and book cabinets (studentgarderober) can be found on U-floor (basement) in section B. Use your ID card to get in.
The lockers and book cabinets are reserved for the students that are assigned to teaching at Rikshospitalet.
Hospital clothing (white clothes) are in cloth boxes in a separate room next to the student changing rooms (studentgarderobene).
Bulletin boards are in the corridor next to the reading rooms.
Small group teaching and discussion rooms (kollokvierom/sm?grupperom) are on the M floor (above Store auditorium) in section B2. These rooms are used for PBL-sessions, but are also available for students when they are not in use. Reservation lists are posted outside the rooms every Thursday. There is also a conference room that can be used next to the library.
Baby changing room/break room (Stellerom) for pregnant students and students with small children is on the 1st floor in section B1. You can borrow a key for the room by contacting the Secretariat on the 3rd floor in section B1.
Cafeteria (Kantine) is on the 1st floor in section B. You have access by using your ID card.
Photocopy machines are at Domus Medica. You can buy copying cards at the library.

Ullev?l University Hospital
This is the largest hospital in Northern Europe. It consists of many buildings over a large area, and it can at times be difficult to find your way around. The University administration at Ullev?l (tel. to reception: 22 85 05 50) has administrative responsibility for semesters 5, 6, 8 and 10 in medicine. Secretaries in charge are Kristin Grude The secretariat of research institutes in the Faculty are located at Frederik Holsts hus, Ullev?l Terrasse.
ID cards for Ullev?l can be obtained at ID-kontoret, which is located at S?sterhjemmet (1 st floor), Ullev?l
Bulletin boards are outside most auditoriums.
Cultural events are arranged in the hospital. You can find information about this at the various departments and posts in the hospital. There are also announcements in the internal newspaper "Ullev?l-Nytt". There are groups for people who are interested in various forms of music and there is also a good chance that a theatre group has a piece in progress during your period of study.
Medical meetings for all doctors at Ullev?l take place every Friday 07:45 – 08:30 in the Store auditorium in Midtblokken. The topics for the meetings are posted at the hospital departments. In Patologibygget (legedemonstrasjonsromet) a pathology demonstration will be held daily at 11:30 – 12:00. The pathologist will give an account of the deceased. Students are welcome. Wear one of the white coats that hang outside the legedemonstrasjonsrommet. In addition, there are daily meetings for each section at medisinsk klinikk and kirurgisk klinikk.
Accompanying the doctor on call is a possibility if you are interested. Contact the doctor on call directly (you find the name of the relevant doctor on call from lists that can be found at the department office). At the front desk there you can get a "dobbelt-calling", so you can follow along with the doctor when doing consultations.
Hospital clothes (frakker) can be found near Garderobene. In kirurgisk klinikk all hospital clothes are in one room in the basement near the main entrance. The code to get into the room is 2547. Note that some of the wards/departments are not equipped with enough coats (or white shirts and trousers).
Changing rooms/showers are in kirurgen. The changing rooms are limited at Ullev?l sykehus.
Cafeteria’s (kafeteria) are open during regular working hours and are found in Sentralblokkens 1st floor in Resepsjonen and in Patologibygget. In S?sterhjemmets kantine, you can buy dinner between 13:30 and 16:30. Coffee/chocolate machines can be found outside department offices at medisinsk and kirurgisk klinikk. There is a small shopping complex close to the entrance of the hospital.
Reading room. There are also reading spaces in the library on the 7th floor in Midtblokken.
Book lockers are in the basement of Patologibygget. Contact the reading room attendant to obtain a key.
Small discussion rooms (Kollokvierom) are available in Patologibygget and in various departments at Ullev?l. Ask for local information.
Lecture rooms/auditorium are located in each department. Store Auditorium (235 seats) is in the underetasje in Midtblokken. The auditorium in Patologibygget has 90 seats. If you wish to rent or use the hall in Kirurgisk, Medisinsk or Patologiskbygget, contact the person who is on the bulletin board outside that room/auditorium (auditorieansvarlig).
Medical Library at Ullev?l universitetssykehus is exceptionally good. It is on the 8th floor in Midtblokken and is open Monday-Friday 08:00-18:00. They have journals, books, videos and magazines available and a computer room with internet access. There are reading places on the 7th floor, but be aware that hospital employees have priority there. The library arranges daily "drop-in" courses where students can participate. Sentralblokken was opened in 1995 and is where the department of surgery (kirurgisk avdeling) is housed. On the 1st floor is the emergency room where there is also a room for students, a room for CR and more operating rooms. On the 2nd floor in Sentralblokken you find the operating theatres with nine operating rooms, a large postoperative ward and a large intensive care unit. On the north side of Sentralblokken, between this and Midtblokken, you find KAM-bygget with offices on the 3rd floor, an auditorium and conference rooms.
Service-senteret includes a supermarket, perfumery, hairdresser, newsstand, a post office and a bank (Kreditkassen). To get a taxi call (internal nr.) 18148 or 73965/66.
Sports activities are arranged both at the University campus and at the hospital and you are free to participate. There are many different types of sports (in the indoor field/court and barracks). For information about membership fees and practice times go to klubbhuset "Villa 4" v/plasthallen.
Akershus University Hospital (Ahus)
This is the most recent of the five university clinics linked to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. In 2008 the hospital will move into new buildings. Medical students are at AHUS in semesters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12.
The Faculty Division at Ahus with auditorium, seminar room, small group teaching rooms, student fascilities and the administration is located at the 6th floor in NN (NN6). The administrative leader of the division is Berit Opheim (telephone 67927802).
Studentkontoret is located at NN6, room xxx. In charge of the office is student contact Vibeke S. Bj?rklund (telephone 67927804). The office is there to help students and take care of immediate needs concerning teaching and teaching related matters. ID cards for Ahus will be issued to the medical students. Students who do not have ID cards should contact Vibeke S. Bj?rklund (see above). The ID card expires at the calculated time of graduation.

The library at Ahus is on the 1st floor, other parts of the library are in the main lobby at Rikshospitalet and in the building for basic science institutes in Domus Medica. Auditorium (for 118 persons), seminar-room (with electronic connection to auditoriums at Rikshospitalet and Ullev?l) and small group teaching rooms are located in NN6.
The student facilities at Ahus at NN6 additionally comprises

Domus Medica
Exchange students can obtain ID cards for Domus Medica from Exchange Coordinator Sverre Bjerkeset. This applies to exchange students staying less than six months or until they get their student card.
