Course description
Why are there so many poor people in the world? This course aims to give answers to this important question. In addition to poverty and inequality, the course do also cover important aspects of economic and social changes in poor countries. The topics include:
Poverty and developing countries Interaction between traditional and modern production Economic reforms, aid and debt Good and bad institutions Interaction between economic and social relations Corruption, crime and conflict
You will learn about important theories in developing economics and you should be able to use the models in discussions about effects on poverty and income distribution due to changes in assumptions and politics. In addition, you should use the models in discussing the differences between rich and poor countries.
