Problems for tomorrow, and more:
For tomorrow, do:
- Problem 1-03 from the compendium
- (Easy) A square matrix M = Mt has t as top-left element m11, while no other element depends on t. Let f(t) = det(Mt). What kind of function is f?
- (Somewhat harder, skip if you don't catch it) A square matrix A does not depend on t, but A - t I does (subtract t from each diagonal element of A). Let p(t) = det(A - t I). What kind of function is p?
Lecture notes.
- I updated the one for today. The next will be written and uploaded later this afternoon.
- These notes are "notes for myself", kind of; I often fill in explanations, other examples etc. Bottom line: do not take them as curriculum substitutes. (The most significant indication of what is exam relevant, should be the seminar problems!)
Schedule:
- The cells of today's and tomorrow's lectures were updated to reflect reality. I see that I also forgot to mention 7.2 of the Norwegian LA, but I mentioned what you need to know from that.
- Changes: So next Tuesday will be seminar; next Thursday one lecture will go; the winter break week will be lecture-free; and, the seminar series will extend into the first week of May.
There are too many seminars and not enough lectures as of now, but at least one seminar will become a lecture.
Two more things:
- Calculators on the exam. Is it clear to everyone?
- Contact students: by tomorrow.
