PSY2206 – Cognition, emotion and language

Course content
The course provides in-depth analyses of scientific knowledge (classical and recent, theoretical and empirical) about the relations between cognition, emotion and language from the perspectives of psychological and developmental sciences. A large range of cognitive, emotional and language phenomena (typical and abnormal) as well as scientific theories and methods will be examined.

You should have:
- In-depth knowledge about cognition, emotion, language and their relations from the perspectives of psychological and developmental sciences.
- In-depth knowledge about various scientific methods used to research cognition, emotion, language and their relations.
Skills
You should be able:
- To conduct and report an advanced theoretical research on the relation between cognition, emotion and language within the fields of psychological and developmental sciences.
General competence
You should be able:
- To analyse the validity and ethics of scientific research.
- To communicate the results of scientific research.
- To think critically and reflectively.
Admission
If there are more applicants than available places, the students

Prerequisites
Recommended previous knowledge
Prior knowledge in cognitive, affective and/or language sciences as well as in developmental psychology would be an advantage.

- 5 credits overlap with PSY2204 – Kognitiv utvikling (discontinued)
Teaching
Teaching is given through lectures and Group sessions. Students are expected to be active in both (e.g. personal response system and self-assessment will be used).
Examination
Individual semester essay. Requirements about the form and the content of the essay will be provided at the beginning of the course and posted in Canvas.
Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Examination support material
No examination support material is allowed.
Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
Explanations and appeals
Resit an examination
If you are sick or have another valid reason for not attending the regular exam, we offer a postponed exam later in the same semester.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
