How to submit the Master's thesis

You must submit your master's thesis in Inspera and DUO. 

1. Deadline for thesis submission

Check the deadline for thesis submission on the ANTH4090 semester web page under Examination: Time and place.

2. Make sure the thesis comply with formal requirements

3. Submit your thesis and summary to DUO (Digital Publications at UiO) via StudentWeb

In addition to submitting your thesis in Inspera, you must submit your thesis to DUO prior to the submission deadline.

  • You must submit your master's thesis to DUO through StudentWeb. You can also submit your 1 page summary that is made available to the public in the DUO open research archive. Use "Summary", and your family name and given name as the title of the summary file.
  • Log in with your username and password. You cannot submit if you log in with your Norwegian ID number and PIN code.
  • Follow the detailed instructions for submitting in DUO. 
  • You receive a confirmation from DUO. 
  • Your thesis is not available online in DUO before 98 days after the submission deadline.

4. Submit the thesis in Inspera

  • Log into Inspera
  • Find the submission folder under My tests
  • Upload the confirmation received from DUO.
  • Upload your master’s thesis as a pdf file. Use "Thesis", and your family name and given name as the title of the file you upload (e.g. Thesis-Smith-Sarah.pdf).
    You should not include the candidate number.
  • State if your thesis is required by law to be restricted due to confidentiality.
  • When you have successfully uploaded the files, you will see that they are saved to your submission.
  • When the submission folder closes, your thesis will be submitted automatically and you will see your submission under "Archive".

5. Notify the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research - Sikt (previously NSD) on the completion of your project

If you have processed/obtained personal data, which is notifiable to Sikt, it is important that you notify them that the project is completed, and what you have done with the data.

6. Printing your thesis

You are not to hand in any bound copies of your thesis.

The Autumn of 2024 is the last semester The Department of Social Anthropology covers the cost of printing 5 copies at the University Print Centre. From the Spring semester of 2025 onwards, the department will not cover any printing costs.

If you complete the Master's degree in the Autumn of 2024 and wish to order copies for your own use:
