CONT4605 – Master Thesis Seminar
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
The course prepares the students for writing the Master Thesis in Intercontextual Theology, and is given as a seminar for first year master students.
Learning outcome
The seminar is meant to help the students to formulate a theme for the master thesis, and to give a preliminary description of the method and the content of the thesis.
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Admission to Religion and Diversity: Conflict and Coexistence (master's two years) (being phased out) is required.
Teaching
Each class will be divided into some lecture material, classroom discussion, and practical in-class exercises for developing research and writing skills.
Mandatory Requirements:
The following assignments must be completed:
- Daily Thesis Diary, which will form the basis of much of the weekly classroom discussion.
- Annotated bibliography of eight key secondary sources relevant for the student’s thesis project.
- Project presentations by students, which will receive a constructive-critical response from the teacher.
Examination
The exam will take the form of a portfolio. The weight of each assignment is as follows.
- Daily Thesis Diary – 10%
- Annotated bibliography of eight key secondary sources – 20 %
- Project presentations by students – 30%
- Project description (approx. 10pp), which will include methodology and a detailed plan – 40%
The portfolio will be evaluated with a single grade.

Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
