Course description
Course content
The course offers a first introduction to the PhD program on a practical, administrative and academic level. The candidates will be introduced to the library and the digital sources available there and learn how to work with EndNote and similar reference programs. They will meet the administrative and academic staff at the faculty and learn about the practicalities, rights and duties of being a PhD candidate. During the thesis design seminar, they will learn about how to write a PhD and how to design, plan, draft, write and finish a doctoral thesis. They will also discuss the research proposals of each PhD project, assessing their strengths and weaknesses.
Learning outcome
The candidates will
- learn how to use the library resources at the faculty
- be introduced to the different aspects of being a PhD candidate, including administrative and practical issues
- acquire skills of designing and organising a dissertation
Teaching
The course consists of meetings, introductory courses and seminars during the first month of the PhD period.
Attendance
The course requires attendance and active participation at all the introductory meetings and seminars, including the thesis design seminar.
