Course content

Empirical research in social sciences. This course focuses on methodological challenges of doing empirical research in social sciences:
- The theory and rationale of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Designs of qualitative and quantitative research
- Qualitative and quantitative research in practice
- Validity of inferences from qualitative and quantitative research
Learning outcome
This course aims to give all students an understanding of methodological challenges in empirical research in Social Sciences.
Admission

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
The course is a part of the Master programme in Comparative and International Education and the Master programme in Higher Education.
Teaching
The teaching is a combination of lectures and seminars. A minimum of 80% attendance is required of all students and attendance is taken at every class.
Examination
At the conclusion of the course, the students will have a mandatory 6 hours written examination. This exam is not a take home exam. Exams will be graded either: A, B, C, D, E and F(ail).
Language of examination
The exam for this course is only offered in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
