Learning outcome
The course aims to introduce you to national and international policies and practices as related to education and development.
Upon completion of the course you are expected to:
Knowledge
- understand the importance of and interaction between processes of formulating policies at the global and national levels
- understand the processes of formulating, planning and implementing education policies for development and change in national contexts
- understand the modes of governance, management, provision and delivery of education in national contexts
Skills
- demonstrate capacity to identify research issues related to policy and practice of education and development at global and national levels
- demonstrate capacity to analyse pertinent research issues related to the policy, practice, governance, management, provision and delivery of education at global, regional, national and sub-national levels
- demonstrate capacity to present and discuss in oral and written form issues related to policies and practice in education and development at multiple levels
Competence
- document understanding and oral, written and analytical competencies of relevance to discussions and research on policies and practices in education and development at multiple levels
Admission

The Comparative and International Education Programme is open to all students who fulfil the basic requirements above. The main target groups are international students, for example students under the 'Quota' Programme, Erasmus students and NORDPLUS students. Norwegian students are also encouraged to apply.
All students in the 1st semester of the program have equal access to the course. Other applicants may be considered if there is capacity.
Only students who have been admitted to the course may take part in the lectures, seminars and examination.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Students are required to have passed EDU4100 – Introduction to Comparative and International Education (discontinued) in order to attend this course.
Teaching
The teaching combines lectures with group work, seminars, exercises and oral presentations by students.
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
You are required to write a paper of 12-15 pages as a home assignment. Requirements and deadlines will be announced at the beginning of the course. The assignment will count as the entire portion of the grade.
The paper is graded Pass/Fail. If you fail the exam, you have the possibility to retake the exam the following semester.
There is a mandatory 80 per cent attendance requirements for all courses. If you do not fulfill the mandatory attendance requirement, you will need to complete an additional assignment prior to passing the course. You must pass the first introductory course in order to continue in the programme.

The home examination is conducted in the digital examination system Inspera.You will need to familiarize yourself with the digital examination arrangements in Inspera.

Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation
The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
