HEMSUBSTE – Higher Education and Work
Course content
Higher Education and Work is a module in the Master Programme on Higher Education.
Learning outcome
The relationships between higher education and work are highly complex. Public and private employers face problems in identifying skill requirements. In a rapidly changing economy, it is all the more difficult to forecast future needs of the employment system. There are systematic limitations of determining the needs of the economy and society as far as graduates from institutions of higher education are concerned. They are expected to question the established work practices, to take over indeterminate work tasks and to contribute to innovation. Moreover, the relationships between higher education and the world of work seem to change rapidly amidst moves towards a knowledge society, a growing importance of life-long learning as well as a trend toward globalisation of economy and society. These are issues that will be covered in this module.
