Course description
Course content
This course takes a detailed look at how national and international governance & policy, institutional leadership & management, and teaching and learning practices relate within institutional, national and international higher education arenas and contexts. The course will provide you with a thorough insight into the state of the art of the field of Higher Education Studies when it comes to the interactions and tensions between primary process and the political, economic and social conditions under which the primary processes take place. You will be introduced to core theoretical perspectives in the field and will be taught how to identify and interpret academic literature of relevance for your research interests.?

Admission to the course
Depending on the number of regular programme students registered for MIED4210, there are maximum 10 places for exchange students.
This course is primarily for exchange students at Bachelor level.
The course is coordinated with the?MIED4210?module in the Master in Education programme and accepted exchange students will have their lectures and seminars together with the regular students. However, the syllabus and examination requirements will be made fit for bachelor students. Please check the exam requirements for more details.

Teaching
The course combines lectures and seminars relating to the described topics. Active participation in group- and class-based discussions is expected.
There is a mandatory 80% attendance requirement for this course. If you do not fulfil the mandatory attendance requirement, you must complete an additional assignment prior to passing the course. The requirement for the additional assignment is at the discretion of the lecturer.
All the coursework is taking place at the University of Oslo Blindern campus.
Access to teaching:
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
A portfolio of activities and a 8 pages home assignment:?
Assignment 1: (maximum 7 pages). This assignment counts as 25% of the overall grade.
Assignment 2:? (maximum 7 pages). This assignment counts as 25% of the overall grade.
Assignment 3: Home assignment (8 pages). This assignment counts as 50% of the overall grade.
Deadline for submission of the assignments will be announced before the course begins.?
You receive one grade for the course. Students must submit and pass all three assignments in order to receive an overall final grade.?
You must have completed the attendance requirements for this course prior to taking the final examination. ?
The examination will count as the entire portion of the course grade.?
Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F?is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.
Resit an examination
Re-sit examination

If you fail the exam you are allowed to re-sit the exam during the same semester.

If you are ill?during the exam period?or have valid absence from the assignment you are allowed to re-sit the exam within the same semester.

If you wish to retake the exam in order to improve the grade, you may do so during the next offering of the course. You have the opportunity to retake the exam without retaking the compulsory components unless there are changes to the requirements in the course in the semester that you register for retake.
