Course content
We live in The Information Society where knowledge is the most important mean of production and learning is the most important process. Increasingly, learning processes involve digital technology. Mastering new technology may be the aim of the learning process or the technology may be a way to promote the acquisition of a certain knowledge content or new skills in a better and more relevant way.
This course focuses on the interrelationship between learning and technology. How might simulations and 3D models of complex scientific processes and phenomena help kids learn science in a different, more engaging and productive manner? Do children need to spend hours practicing the hand writing skills in the digital age? What kind of learning principles inform the design of computer games like Halo or World of Warcraft? These and similar questions will be discussed in and through this course in learning and digital technologies.

- describe theoretical perspectives on learning from- and with digital technology.
- describe relations between the theoretical perspectives and design and use of digital technology in learning.
- analyze the function and importance of digital technologies in learning processes
- apply theories to analyze and identify principles of learning in e-learning solutions
- critically discuss the impact of digital technology and its function in organizations and society

The student is able to
- design learning situations supported by technology
- adapt general learning principles to specific educational challenges
- give a presentation for others on an academic subject
- analyze text and formulate ideas in a written academic text

Prerequisites
Recommended previous knowledge
It is recommended that students have some basic knowledge of topics in Education at bachelor level.

Teaching
The course consists of lectures and student-activites including
- case and problem based reasoning and writing summaries of texts
- groupdicussions about the course curriculum
- practical exercises, evaluation of digital learning resources
Active participation in the course is required
It is compulsory to attend the first lecture/seminar. Students that do not attend will loose access to the course. Students that are ill or otherwise prevented from attending must contact the study administration of the course (See contact information on the semester page).
Examination
Compulsory requirement:
Each student is required to write a summary and analysis of a text from the course litterature. The summary/analysis is to be presented in small groups. In addition, the students are required to comment on each others presentations.
Exam-paper:
Each student is required to write one paper of 5 pages.
The deadline and detailed requrement for the summary and the paper will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
The compulsory requirement must be completed and approved before the exam-paper may be submitted.

Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Language of examination
The language of examination in the spring semester is generally English. You may submit your response in English, Norwegian, Swedish or Danish.
The language of examination in the autumn semester is generally Norwegian. You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
The final grade is dependent on the Exam-paper only.
Explanations and appeals
Resit an examination
Both the compulsory requirement and the exam-paper must be completed in the same semester. If you wish to retake the exam,the whole course must be completed again. To do so you must apply for admission to the course the next time it is offered.
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
