- Normality and deviance
- Disability and obstacles
- Inclusion and diversity
- Discrimination and exclusion
- Deviance and disability – and learning and development
- The inclusive society: unity and diversity
- Special needs education and ethics, politics and society
Learning outcome
This course will provide insight concerning the social foundations of special needs education, including deviance and disability as social phenomena. Through problems based on concepts, attitudes and everyday experiences, the course contributes to critical insight and independent reflection aimed at an inclusive and diverse society.

Teaching
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
Obligatory components:
An individual written reflection assignment and an oral group assignment or individual written theoretical assignment to be approved by the seminar leader. These assignments must be approved before the student can sit the take-home exam.
For students who are enrolled in the programme for Special Needs Education who are simultaneously taking course SPED2010 – Didaktikk og spesialpedagogisk virksomhet del 1 (discontinued), participation and presentation in PBL groups counts as delivery of the individual theoretical assignment.
Language of examination
You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
