Course content
The course will emphasize the linguistic and cognitive basis of reading and writing, reading and writing development and prevention of reading and writing difficulties. The course will particularly accentuate reading difficulties and teaching methods related to such problems. The course covers the main constructs, causal relationships, learning conditions and special educational needs in children with reading disabilities.

Learning outcome
The purpose of this course is to provide insight in how reading and writing difficulties can be understood and prevented, and in addition, how schools can teach children with reading and writing difficulties.

Formal prerequisite knowledge
For students accepted onto the bachelor’s programme in pedagogics: UTVIT1000 - Innf?ring i utdanningsvitenskap: L?ring, danning og samfunn
For students accepted onto the Teacher Education Programme (LAP): UVEXPAED03 - Ex.paed
The required courses may be replaced by equivalent courses/education from other universities as an alternative basis for admission to the course.

Overlapping courses
10 credits with SPED3000 - L?revansker og s?rskilte behov i et system- og individperspektiv
If you wish to take SPED3000 after having successfully completed SPED3010 you will not be get an exemption from any of the requirements in SPED3000 and you will be given a credit reduction of 10 credits due to overlapping courses.
Teaching
The teaching consists of lectures (together with SPED3000 - L?revansker og s?rskilte behov i et system- og individperspektiv ). Students will be assigned to a seminar group.
The obligatory reading for the course consists of approx. 750 pages.
Examination
The examination consists of a 6 hour individual examination.
Examination support material
No examination support material is allowed.
Language of examination
You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
