SPED4603 – Neurodevelopmental disorders in a lifespan perspective

Course content

Neurodevelopmental disorders in a lifespan perspective, with a focus on topics of particular relevance for the target groups. The three target groups are persons with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.

Knowledge

  • neurodevelopmental disorders, with a focus on selected topics and themes that are of relevance for the target groups in a life-span perspective?

  • evidence-based special needs praxis for persons with neurodevelopmental disorders?

  • to understand and apply research-based knowledge to develop special needs interventions for the target groups.?

After completing the course, you should have general competence in:

  • applying your knowledge? and skills in special needs work for persons with neurodevelopmental disorders?

  • working professionally, contributinge to discussions within the field, increasinge the focus upon the target groups in society, and contributinge towards strengthening special needs interventions for persons with neurodevelopmental disorders.?

Admission to the course

Requires admission to the master’s programme in?Research in Special Needs Education or the master’s programme in Special Needs Education.?Eligible exchange students at master’s level, as well as other master students at UiO, can be admitted if there are available places.?This course is also open for international exchange students at master's level with a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent.

The course is compulsory for students on the specialisation Nevroutviklingsforrstyrrelser.

Teaching

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars. Parts of the teaching are compulsory.?

Compulsory components:?

  • Attendance at seminars?

  • One work assignment connected to the article seminar: oral presentation

  • One work assignment connected to project work: written report from the group?

The compulsory components must be completed and approved in order to sit the exam and are valid for three years.?

Refer to the guidelines for attendance in compulsory teaching sessions.

Examination

Individual written term paper.

Examination support material

All examination support material is allowed.

Language of examination

Scandinavian or English.

Resit an examination

Students who do not pass an exam may have a second attempt as soon as it is possible to arrange. This is called a re-sit examination. The re-sit examination is held within 3 months of the original examination.

Students who have passed their exam, but who wish to improve their grade may not participate in a re-sit examination. You may take an exam to improve your grades at the next time the course has an ordinary exam, as long as you have not already used all three attempts. The Department will provide information and guidelines about the re-sit examination.
