Tuesday, April 9th, 12:15-15:00, in seminar room Shell, Ole-Johan Dahls hus
Friday, April 12th, 12:15-15:00, in seminar room Shell, Ole-Johan Dahls hus
Language:
English
Target Audience:
UiO reseachers and students who want to get started with SPSS.
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of statistics and research methodology is useful, but not required. The aim is to provide a soft and not-too-technical introduction.
Content:
- Get to know the different menus and options that you have in SPSS
- Setting up a codebook and a data file
- Screening your data and eliminating errors in the data set
- Descriptive statistics, i.e. how to describe a data set using measures such as mean, standard deviation, median, skewness, etc., and know what these mean and how they should be interpreted
- Recoding variables and calculating new variables based on raw data
- Make graphs
Info:
Please download the data files and unzip them beforehand, and place them somewhere easy to find on your computer. Slides will be uploaded after the course. The slides are quite detailed. So instead of taking notes, we recommend to focus on active participation in SPSS.
Non UiO users:
While our courses are primarily reserved for UiO employees, external participants are also welcome if there are available seats in the course. If you're not employed at UiO and would like to be added to the waiting list, please fill out this form and we'll let you know if any spots become available.
Important: Participants must have SPSS already installed on their PC. The latest version of SPSS may be downloaded from winprog.uio.no or macprog.uio.no. SPSS is also available remotely on UiO Programkiosk. If you need help with the installation, contact local IT in your department.
