Machines delivered via ICT in research are linked to UiO's IT services. Today, several of the services use cloud storage. We therefore recommend that you also read the storage guide at UiO.
Windows-machine
When you start the machine for the first time, it will configure itself, install standard software and set up e-mail.
NB! It is important that the person who is going to use the machine logs in the first time.
- Connect to power and start the machine.
-
Select your keyboard language and press Next.
-
When asked to set up more keyboards, select Skip (can be done later).
-
Log in with brukernavn@uio.no, click Next at the bottom right.
- You will be forwarded to the login page for University and college sector. Check that your username is present in the form: brukernavn@uio.no and enter your password at UiO.
- You will now be asked to approve the login with two-factor authentication (2FA), which is a security requirement for most IT services at UiO.
- If you haven't set up two-factor authentication before, please set it up using this guide.
- Then you have to log in to Windows with brukernavn@uio.no, and you will get a request for authorization with two-factor authentication again.
- If you have used a wireless network to set up your PC, you may need to log in to wifi again (click on the globe at the bottom right of the screen).
- The PC is configured: "Please wait while we set up your device..." This takes some time - when it is finished you will be on the desktop. Then the PC is ready for use.
You can read more about using the computer under the service pages for Windows at UiO.
MacOS-machine
Setting up MacOS is well described under the service pages for MacOS at UiO.
At the bottom of the same page you will find information on, among other things:
- Installation of software
- How to set up email and calendar
- How to set up storage of documents
Linux-machine
The machine comes with Fedora as an operating system and is installed for you before you pick it up. Upon delivery, you will get help with logging in the first time.
