Student ID on your mobile phone
For a valid semester receipt in the student ID app you must:
- have registered as a student in Studentweb and
- have paid the semester fee to SiO at UiO.
The picture in the app is the same as you have on your access card. It will be sent automatically to the app. Read more about the access card and how to obtain it.
You can find the app as Student ID+ in the App Store and Google Play. Information about the new app from the developers at Sikt.
European Student Card
You can also use the Student ID app as a European Student Card (ESC). This means that University of Oslo programme students with the app can use their student ID across Europe to get student discounts and possibly other student benefits. Read more about the ESC on the European Commission's website. You must consent to the transfer of your data in Studentweb.
The student ID is valid
- until 31 January in the autumn semester
- until 31 August in the spring semester.
Is the app not showing the current semester? Touch the three dots / gearwheel in the upper right in the app and select "Update" (requires internet access). In the digital student ID app, the semester receipt for autumn is visible from 1 July, and the semester receipt for spring is visible from 1 January.
Semester receipt on paper
- A semester receipt on paper is not necessary, but together with the access card it is an alternative student ID.
- A paper semester receipt can be ordered in Studentweb. Go to 'More...' in the menu, choose 'Orders' and then 'Semester receipt'.
- A paper semester receipt will be sent to your semester address after some days. In July it will take longer.
Access card for students
The access card can give you access to buildings and rooms at the university, it allows you to obtain printouts and may be used as a library card.
Access cards for students also for PhD candidates
PhD candidates who are active on a PhD programme may also get a student access card. This is most relevant for PhD candidates who are not employed at UiO and for candidates who have finished their appointment period.

Have you paid the semester fee to another student organization?
If you have paid the semester fee to another student organization than SiO, UiO division, you can obtain a key card that you can use for building and room access and as a library card. You must first register in Studentweb. To obtain the key card, visit the the Card Centre in Kristian Ottosens hus at Blindern Campus. Remember to bring a valid ID.
Student number
All students at the University of Oslo have a UiO student number.
- The number is shown on your student ID. You will also find your number in Studentweb, on top of the page My profile.
- The student number may be used at UiO, e.g. if you enquire at one of the faculty information centres with a question concerning your studies.
- Your student number will not change even if you change your study programme at UiO.
