ENG4303 – Between Two Cultures: Indian Authors Who Write in English

Schedule, syllabus and examination date

Course content

Analysis of several novels and short stories by Indian authors who write in English and who can therefore be said to be relating to two very different cultures. The contrast between Indian and British culture is a very important theme in these works. Even though the main emphasis of the course wil be on the interpretation of individual texts with regard to themes, structure, imagery etc. it will also be important to analyse how each author deals with the question of cultural identity and the legacy from the colonial past.

Learning outcome

To develop insight into the works of several Indian authors who write in English and analytical and critical ability in confrontation with postcolonial texts.
