The results of the written exam, as well as the final grades, are now online.
Please also remember the 'dialogm?te', see my email from Dec 2.
Last but not least: thanks for attending this course, and enjoy the Christmas break!!
The final exam will be on November 29, 9.00-13.00, covering everything that we covered in the lecture. You will be allowed to bring 3 pages (double-sided) of own notes with you (but no other tools). I strongly advice to start preparing and organizing these notes early, and with special care and attention, because this will significantly support the learning and understanding process of the rather involved concepts introduced in this course.
During the final phase of preparation and learning - which starts now - please try to use PIAZZA more actively again. This will benefit not only you, but everyone.
On Nov 25, 10.00 am there will furthermore be a dedicated Q&A session in ?467, which is usually perceived as very helpful before the exam. The better you are prepared for this, the more you will get out.
Last but not least, please pay special attention and effort...
The solutions to the home exam are now online. In total, 14 students have handed in solutions. Please let me know ASAP if your candidate number is not among the following:
15052 15053 15054 15055 15056 15057 15058 15060 15061 15062 15063 15064 15066 15067 |
You can find a PDF here. Please note the deadline on Monday 10:00 am; the solutions will be discussed the same day in the exercises.
Good luck!!!
We have noted that the number of people who attend the group exercises has decreased significantly; this week only a handful of students handed in their solutions.
Let me remind you that, while the exercises are not compulsory, active attendance is really necessary in order to fully grasp the course content (and to perform well in the exam). The more people attend and contribute to the discussion, the more every one can get out of it. Finally, the fact that example solutions to the problem sets are put online is really just complementary to the group discussions, and meant to be a service to those students who actively contributed. If the exercise attendance continues to be as low as it is now, we will therefore discontinue it.
(Maybe last week was just particularly bad because of home exams in other classes. In that case there are no worries and I'm confident that the problem will simply solve itself ... )
During the lecture we had a quick poll to move the home exam from week 41 to week 43, i.e. the week starting on October 24.
Could everyone who (dis)likes this particular week please let Param know latest by the next group exercises on Monday (and indicate whether week 42 would be better)?
(The week that is best for most students will be chosen)
As already announced in the lecture, there are no new problems this week.
We will start with something `completely new' next week, perturbation theory, so instead this is a good point to stop and reflect.
This weeks's task is therefore: go through everything we have learnt so far and post your most pressing question to PIAZZA. And.... help to answer the questions of your fellow students!
...in the lecture hall (Lille auditorium).
So the lecture tomorrow (29/08) will take place in ?257 instead.
The first "proper" set of exercises is now out (problem sheet 2), so it's time to repeat the procedure (same for all problem sets from now on):
- You have time to solve the problems, and email your solution to Param by next Wednesday (31/08).
- On Thursday (01/09), you will then be put into small groups (typically 4 people), where everyone is assigned 2 solutions of fellow students in the same group to correct (you will receive a corresponding email notification).
- For these corrections you have time until the group session on Monday (05/09); typically there will be at least one more student with exactly the same solutions assigned, so you may want t...
Since the actual lecture hall is still being renovated, we will meet instead in the seminar room ?394 (same time, i.e. 10 am).
You should by now all have received an invitation to join PIAZZA. Please have a look at the instructions, and start to look around and experiment. Maybe you already have a question after today's lecture, or something else that you want to discuss!?
If used actively, this is a great tool!
The first week there will be three lectures. Starting from next week (Aug 29), there will be exercises on Monday (2:15 am) and lectures on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (10:15 am).
A tentative plan for this first course in relativistic quantum field theory (FYS4170) can now be found on the semester pages of the course, including reading suggestions.
Welcome! :)
